When Diabetes Mellitus results from some other illness – it is then called secondary diabetes. It occurs most frequently in association with diseases of the pancreas (e.g. chronic pancreatitis). It may also result from some endocrinologic illnesses, e.g. some diseases affecting the adrenal and thyroid glands.
