The basis of this disease is the reduced sensitivity of body tissues to insulin namely in connection with an excessive amount of fat in the body. An organism of such a patient must keep producing a greater amount of insulin in order to maintain normal glycemia levels. When the ability to produce insulin reaches its possible maximum, the glucose concentration starts to increase and the disease occurs. The patients are usually treated by „pills“ in the first years of the disease, later on insulin treatment often becomes necessary as the pancreas may get exhausted and the production of insulin decreases.
